The City of Oakland's flagship golf venue has recently been restored to its original glory and re-opened for play in early April 2007. Mare Island Golf Club was established in 1892, making it the oldest course west of the Mississippi. Recently expanded back to a full 18-hole facility by renowned Pacific Tim architect Robin Nelson, the new course is designed to challenge golfers of all abilities.
